Work in progress - fonts

We originally used the font shown in the picture shown directly above. It was quite hard to read and didn't fit the genre that well.

The two pictures above are the recent and updated pictures. As you can see, the font is much cleaner and fits much better with the picture and genre itself. The magazine advert is now much simpler and easier to read, therefore engaging the audience more.

Work in progress - magazine advert

This is the progress of the magazine advert, we first started off working out how to add the gobo effect through editing as our original idea with the gobo was to be for the effect to be done through a stencil when taking the picture, this idea did not work so the decision was made to add the effect in the editing stage, this picture shows the first stages of the editing process for this effect. We wanted the theme of the digi pac to be continued in the magazine advert so we decided to stick with the same grey scale/ black and white. We also made sure we were including the codes and conventions that relates to a magazine advert this includes the reviews, record label, the artists name and the album title.

The second image shows an almost finished idea, we decided that the lines of the gobo were too big so we down sized them in order for them to fit with the title of fine lines, we also changed the contrast and the different adjusted the different colour tones in order to get the look and the tonnes of black and white that we thought best worked. We removed the black box as we didn't feel that it was appropriate for the magazine advert and plates around with the layout of the text. We made her signature of her name bigger so it was more dominant in the advert and made the magazine reviews come from different sources so that they were more appropriate for the genre and to make them fit with the codes and conventions of out magazine advert.

Work in progress - Digipack

This is the back of our digipack so far. I think that the song names reflect the genre and i also think they link with our concept of change and moving on. I also think that the background reflects the title of the album fine lines with the different uses of lines. To make sure that the colours fit with the colour scheme of blackened white the background will be edited to black and white with the pink possibly being colour isolated to show the breakthrough in realising change is good and for the better. The pink will represent the change.

Our Record Label - RCM Records

We have decided to go with this logo because it gives a Brooklyn grunge feel, which links to the more laid back look which links to the song and the way we want to portray the artist.
This is an image of me and Charlie filming for the music video, we had Holly on the ground with a high angle shot to emphasise her vulnerability. This links to the idea that she is unable to move on and can not come to terms with what is going on around her. The camera was set up further away from Holly and zoomed in again to show her vulnerability through the use of tight framing.

Music Genre - Video Analysis

What went well - I have analysed music videos in our music genre and connected them conventions and codes that we have looked at, furthermore I have also put links as to what ideas are repeated in a music video in our music genre.

Even better if - I had incorporated the ideas of codes and conventions more than I did.

Picture representations

Concept stills - Charlie

The main concept I was trying to capture from using this teddy bear was how it slowly deteriorated into a worsened state over time. These pictures represent that nothing ever lasts forever. The teddy can be seen as "happy" in two of the photos, however as time inevitably moves forward, the teddy gets damaged beyond repair, the teddy's happiness cannot and will not last forever.

If I had more time, I would have used some better locations for the shots as well as more creative angles and lighting. One shot I would've liked to have produced was a birds-eye shot of the teddy floating on a lake. This would have represented vulnerability, loneliness and hopelessness.

What went well- The shots were creative and I utilised different camera skills well. For example, focus.

Even better if I used some different shot types. The locations are creative however, I only used two shot types being medium shots and close ups.

Music Video Choice

I chose this song to be one of the ones to possibly be chosen for our final project as I feel the song will allow us to create either a image, narrative or intertextual music video. I think the lyrics of the song could be interpreted in a number of different ways and I think they will have several different meanings and messages to a number of people.

Again I feel this song could be a narrative or intertextual music video, the lyrics of the song could tell a number of different stories and each individual who listens to the song and watches the video that we would create would mean different things to each person and people would be able to relate in similar ways to what we would want them to.

I think that this song would be a very good video for a narrative music video, I think this because the lyrics of the song send a clear message and could be seen as a break up or someone who needs to let go and move on from a event in their lives.
